THINGS ARE HAPPENING FOR WHICH WE HAVE NO EXPLANATION

Are the current affairs including what is happening in the USA's Wall Street financial markets fallout some $700 billions US normal? Are the resignation in South Africa's government including the President and a significant number of ministers normal? What are the doomsday prophets saying about these things? Some of these things which some experts are claiming to be the first time in history, seem to concern people who are not even South Africans or Americans. For the countries in the Caribbean and parts of the USA to have so many frequent hurricanes, does it cause concern to the inhabitants of these countries? There have been always hurricane season but in recent times, they come with increasing intensity and fury. The damages to life and property are unpredictable and incalculable. The property losses maybe calculated but can there be any knowledge of the human losses. What about the recent Tsunami in Asia? Has the human cost/content determined to date?

AN INVITATION TO THE PATRONAL FESTIVAL OF ALL SOULS ANGLICAN CHURCH, BROMPTON

Dear Friends,

Greetings to you

It is with distinct pleasure and anticipation that I cordially invite you and yours to celebrate with us at All Souls Anglican Church, a weekend of Christian celebration. I feel very enthused of the plans that Nicole Allen and the Standing Committee of the Congregation has in store for visitors and friends, highly recommend and affordable to you.

It starts off on the Friday evening October 31, 2008 with a sumptuous Dinner and lively entertainment on the beautiful lawns of All Souls grounds. If you do not mind the outdoor setting in the country air, this could be very therapeutic to you. It will be different to the security conscious urban function. The good news is that all this will cost $1500 per person.

The Patronal Service on Sunday November 02, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. will not only be colourful and traditional, it will be chance to worship God in the beauty of holiness in the newly renovated Sanctuary of the Church. It will be a glorious undertaking, thanks be to God.

I appeal to you to support this cause especially when it is being led by an enthusiastic and highly motivated young Nicole. Bless her soul.

To read and keep-up-to-date on this and other events of the Cure, please visit our website at http://www.blackrivercure.com/, and my Blog: DOUGYJAM listed on the website or at http://dougyjam.blogspot.com

Tickets for the Dinner maybe had from the Cure Office at 634-0064, Nicole: 432-8882, Sandra Walters, 441-6028 or myself.

Thank you
Blessings

THE PATRONAL FESTIVAL OF ALL SOULS, BROMPTON

A very special effort is being made by Nicole Allen and the Standing Committee of the All Souls Anglican Church of Brompton, St Elizabeth, Jamaica to make this year's celebration of its PATRONAL FESTIVAL a very special occasion. Nicole as usual puts her heart and soul into any assignment that she undertakes. The Festival will this year be spread over a weekend starting on Friday October 31, 2008 with a dinner and entertainment on the lawns on the beautiful church compound, starting at 6:30 p.m. The Guest Speaker for the dinner will be the distinguished and eloquent Dr Randolph Watson a past principal of the Bethlehem Moravian College.

This will be followed by the PATRONAL CHURCH SERVICE at All Souls Anglican Church, Brompton on Sunday November 02, 2008 starting at 4:00 p.m. The nature of the liturgy will be one of solemnity as the roll of the names of faithful who have entered into everlasting rest as well as those living are called. Then later on in the Service, those who over the years have contributed to their church in ways that are considered meritorious by the members of the Church will be honoured, some posthumously. Soli dei gratia!

SOLEMN EVENING SONG

Presently, we have not be worshipping in the sanctuaries during the evening hours. I have structured a poll to get your input on the matter to be found on this blog. We use the sanctuaries in the evenings for meetings and rehearsals but I think that at least one evening (mid week) should be dedicated to the worship of the Lord in the beauty of Holiness. What do you think?

BLACK RIVER CURE -ECUMENISM

The Church is one foundation, It is the body of Christ and as St Paul has put it, all parts are necessary as are all parts of the same body. The Anglican Church in the Black River Cure annually joins with local Roman Catholics and Methodist marking the Stations of the Cross throughout Town of Black River on Good Friday. In September all the denominational Churches in the Parish of St Elizabeth join a week for the Keswick Convention at the St John Parish Church.

BEACH OLYMPICS IN JAMAICA?

There has been talk in Jamaica of a Beach Olympics in 2009. Yesterday, both the Ministers of Tourism and that of Sports met in a news conference along with triple Olympic world record holder Usain Bolt and others and laid out the initial plans for the event.
This may be a far reaching concept but if you consider that Jamaica is a country that is blessed with lots of resources including like the panoramic blue mountains and the beautiful beaches; coffee, rum and now the fastest human being on earth, the proposed 100 yards dash on the beach could be a reality in 2009. According to the two ministers, persons such as financiers, builders, planners, games official and others will participate in this project.
What could derail such an ambitious undertaking? Crime? Well did you know that crime in Jamaica has been around perhaps before Captain Henry Morgan and the Buccaneers of Port Royal? In fact, such an event, which could be considered in the light of vacation, could kindle in the society the need for such laughter and enjoyment amid the constant demand for competition. Perhaps Jamaica could move to the column of the countries that one must visit for relaxation.

Where did IKE go?

It is now 4:30 p.m. in Kingston, Jamaica and bright beautiful and sunny. We no longer talk about hurricane IKE. We are told that it is heading to the Gulf of Mexico. People's attention are now directed to Bolt of Lightening - the triple world record holder and Olympic champion and winner of three Gold medals in Beijing, Usain Bolt was treated to an extensive news conference at the Hylton Hotel, New Kingston. The Government through the Ministries of Tourism and Sports launched the 100 meters beach run for 2009 in Jamaica. It is an effort to capitalize on the fame and goodwill of Jamaica worldwide. Lets pray that this will be so.

HURRICANE IKE

Although the satellite pictures show IKE going over our northern neighbour and destroying Cuba, we are also receiving weather storms over the island of Jamaica. We wish IKE would take an hike.

Hurricane Gustav

I am glad that here in Jamaica we only had GUSTAV as a tropical storm. I can really understand what the people of the Gulf States are going through now. We now need a break.

What do you know? Here comes IKE at category 4.
